First Journey up to the Sub Alpine
The Bella Coola Guide that mentioned this mountain road is typically buried in snow pack until mid July, but we thought we'd try it June 3rd. Anyone surprised - we had no problem driving right up past 650ft Odegaard Falls, and into the sub alpine.
We did find one snow avalanche. It blocked the road, so we got out to cross the snow & debris by foot. There were no other obstructions for the two miles or so we ventured.

There were waterfalls & rainbows everywhere. The warm temperatures melted the snow pack leaving the creeks and waterfalls roaring. As we ventured up the road, we came across more and more ponds and lakes.
We can't wait to go back. These pictures just can't capture the awesome feeling it gives you. Lots of lakes to kayak, boulder fields, and crystal clear deep water channels running throughout the expansive meadows. An amazing place to wander around & enjoy the views. Can only imagine the wild flowers that appear later this summer.
We did come across a very large black bear. Just looked at us and continued on his way. I didn't think they got that big..

When we turned around to go back, a late afternoon downpour chased us to the car and down into the valley.
